Maria Contreras Coll is a documentary photographer, filmmaker, and educator based in Barcelona. A National Geographic Explorer and recipient of the National Culture Award of Catalonia, her work focuses on how women challenge and reshape patriarchal structures. She collaborates with The New York Times, Bloomberg, and other international outlets, and has exhibited widely. She teaches and mentors in photography across various institutions. After nearly a decade working in photojournalism, she expanded her practice into directing, completing a postgraduate degree and a master’s in filmmaking at ESCAC. “La Prona” is her first work as a director and screenwriter.
