Hedda Mjøen is a writer and director of both documentary and fiction. Like her documentaries, her fiction projects are usually based on true stories and historical events. Her projects often discuss ethical dilemmas and controversial topics. She aims to provide nuance and fresh perspectives to topics that are usually polarized in the media and public opinion, such as racism, religion, radicalization, mental illness and sexual assault. She strives to
make compelling, thought- provoking stories that touch their audiences and trigger debate. In 2022 she won the Gullrute Award (Norwegian Emmy´s) in the category «Best Character Driven Documentary», and in 2025 her first fiction short film Mercy won The Golden Chair for Best short film at the Norwegian Short Film Festival.
